During June-July, COERR Mae Sot organized several Basic and Advance Training in Agriculture in two camps. The Basic Training was organized for youth who learned agriculture for the first time in Ban Mae La numbering 200, including 89 male and 111 female, on June 16,23,30 and July 7, 2017.
COERR’s Basic Agricultural Training for youth in Ban Mae La
Another Basic training was organized in Ban Umpiem camp for 102 youth, consisting of 36 male and 66 female, on July 14,15,28 and 29. During the training, these young refugees were learning the contents of soil nourishment, growing vegetables and trees, integrating farming, disease control and pest repellent, making low cost animal feed from kitchen and farm waste, growing mushroom in basket, food processing for value added and household accounting. Then, the trainees started to practice making liquid fertilizers from kitchen and farm waste; and soil mixing prior to cultivation.
In-class and outdoor Basic Agricultural Training at Ban Umpiem camp
During June-July, COERR also provided an Advanced Organic Agriculture Training Course at Ban Umpiem camp on June 6, 8, 13, 14, 21, 22; and July 4, 5, 11 and 12. There were 23 refugees consisting of 14 male and 9 female attending this advance course which were taught by 3 trainers, who had passed COERR’s “Training of Trainer in Agriculture Course”. The training will follow the manual on “Agriculture Training of Trainer for Repatriation” in which there are 12 lessons, e.g. Agroecosystem, Plant structure, Fertile soil, Plant nutrition, Effects of climate on plants, Principles of organic agriculture, Natural ways of soil improvement, Pest repellent, Water management, Seed storage and crop variety improvement, Raising organic livestock and Transition from conventional to organic farming.
The trainees’ active involvement was seen due to the three trainers were taking turn teaching in their own language so their communication was comprehensible. |
